Establish Connection
Overview
Lumi AI draws its insights from the data it is connected to. This can be a source system storing the current live record-of-fact serving operations, or a data warehouse housing a managed collection of data for business intelligence. Lumi can connect to a variety of either such systems to support visibility as needed.
All data scoping and definitions are managed in a Knowledge Base, and each Knowledge Base is turn connected to a data source via a "Connection". This connection is effectively are the properties required to form a SQL (or SQL-like) connection to the system.
Connection Types
Lumi supports multiple methods to connect with your data:

Direct. This is the more straight-forward solution. If your system supports a direct connection and your company IT policy and related infrastructure supports and endorses the method, this is the simpler way to make a connection.

Data Gateway. Lumi offers an application called the Lumi AI Data Gateway, which serves to facilitate communications between Lumi AI's cloud infrastructure and a data source that cannot communicate directly over the internet. If your data source or source system cannot communicate directly, the Data Gateway is an effective alternative solution.
Cloud data warehouses like Snowflake or BigQuery will typically support a direct connection (not always, depending on IT configuration) and most other systems hosted on some kind of local network (whether in the cloud or on-prem) will need a Data Gateway.
Technical Note: Indepenent of type, both methods rely on SQL connections with live sessions. These are not long-running sessions and both feature a number of controls for administrators to regulate both access and impact on their destinations.
